Hello world! – says Akshara

In the hospital

Akshara says “Hello World” or rather tries to bring the roof down by crying “Hello World”. I guess that she became claustrophobic and decided to break free a month earlier than expected. But, all went fine and she well and truly established herself in the outside world.

Vidhya’s mom was expected only on September 1st and we had to manage almost a little more than a week by ourselves. Thanks to our friends taking care to keep us fed many times a day, we managed to survive the first week, albeit this meant a few sleepless and hapless nights.

It was fun to keep track of the gifts flowing in, but the statistics suggested that 99.99 % of them had the colour pink on 99.99% of their area, as is evident in the picture below with the mom and daughter posing with the first batch of gifts.

The way that she was bathed in the hospital was frightening as well as entertaining. It was amazing to watch the casual way in which the nurse handled her and tossed her around in the water. Finally, it was time to make the journey from the hospital to our home. It seems that the law of the land states that you cannot take an infant in a car unless it is kept in a car-seat! Sometimes, modern society complicates things too much. Anyway, i had to shop around for a car-seat while Vidhya was in hospital and i ended up with a bright red one whose manual was much more complicated than any of the work related manuals i have been through. After lot of fiddling around, we managed to fit Akshara into the car seat. She looked comfortable in it, at least that is what we preferred to say.
